I’m Jamal and I write fiction. Most of my stories are literary fiction, but I dabble in thriller and supernatural. My main obsession, though, is prose style. The page-long, grammatically sound sentences of Lydia Davis, the analytical passages from Teju Cole’s Known and Strange Things, the experimentation in format in each chapter of Karen Tei Yamashita’s I Hotel. Yeah, I live for this stuff.
I will graduate from Temple University in May 2021, have worked as an editor and secretary on the campus lit mag, Hyphen, have written book reviews for Philadelphia Stories, and write film and book reviews for Picture This Post.
Here you’ll find a sample of my stories and some analyses of prose.
